Multiplication Methods

I was just talking with a friend whose son is learning Multiplication at a private school. He is having a very hard time at home. He feels confused and unsure. She found out that they are teaching a different Multiplication method than she learned with. I never even realized that there were different Multiplication Methods! So I've found out that there at least 4 methods: Partial Products Method, Lattice Method, Short Method, Egyptian Method. I learned using the Short Method although if I am multiplying in my head I use a variations of the Partial Products Method. The other two Methods look absolutely foreign.

Free Learning, Hands On, Applied Math, Applied Science, Engineering Expo

2007 USF Engineering Expo
I have attended this many times over the last decade. It is mainly attended by public school students but it is open and FREE to the public. It is held at the University of South Florida Engineering Buildings in Tampa Florida. Although it is held on both Friday and Saturday, there are usually more exhibits and shows on Friday.

This is an excellent way to introduce and re-enforce how science and math are so important in our daily lives in a fun almost carnival atmosphere. Many exhibitors have freebies like small toys, pencils, erasers, and puzzles.

Main Events Include:
Fun with Physics Show
Chemical Magic Show
Association for Computing Machinery's Build Your Own Computer
Dance, Dance Revolution
American Society of Mechanical Engineer's Electrathon
Engineering Merit Badge College
Whitehatter Computer Security Club - A Brand New Student Organization
